Notes: This was supposed to be last night, but since my schedule and life in general have been such that I've found myself profoundly distracted and profoundly busy of late, you'll be reading this a day later than was originally intended. Enjoy nonetheless.
Custer's Jacket, y'all! The page includes a list of various specs about the coat, including dimensions, what it's filed under, year it was made (an approximation) and a general history of the object in question.
Teddy Roosevelt's Chaps, if that's your thing. According to that page right there, they were worn during his three years as a rancher after the death of his wife. He sought "the recuperative powers of a strenuous life" and after he felt better about himself, he went back East to resume being a politician.
Those are the only two functioning links from the general fact sheet, and I can't find that pdf treasure map anywhere, which irks me tremendously, but those are good jumping off points if you want to peruse the Smithsonian's website in search of other objects from the movie, including the Lockheed Vega flown by Amelia Earhart, the Wright Flyer, flown by Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart, the Pile of Loot (possibly no longer on display, but yay for pictures!), and others.
And besides, personally I've been to a Smithsonian museum and gotten some pretty sweet shots of mummies. If this is the last you hear of me, it's because the feds came for me.
Next on "For the Love of Night at the Museum": Smithsonian bloggers talk the video game and the BOTS sneak peek! (Granted, it's a little dated, but still, it's awesome.)
Countdown: 313 Days to NATM 3
NATM 3 Update: Just recently filming in London has wrapped (I take that to mean that all outside shots of London on location are done), and so filming in New York commences (which means all outside shots of New York are now being shot as you read this). I take it after that we move to the sets in Vancouver.
In other news, someone on the Far Flung Net has learned that Steve Coogan will be replaced as Octavius. I'm not sure what source they have, but the exact comment on the subject can be found here. Does this disconcert anyone? Does anyone have any information? Comment below if you do, because this could become a serious problem.
